Claude Cowork Live Artifacts: Self-Updating Dashboards From Your Connectors

Live Artifacts are dynamic artifacts in Claude Cowork that pull data from your connectors and update themselves. I replaced my Linear dashboard with one. The honest verdict after using it: for reading state, it works; for acting on state, I still prefer Scheduled Tasks, and I will say exactly why below.

What are Live Artifacts?

A regular artifact is frozen at generation time. A Live Artifact keeps fetching. Mine draw on the connectors I already have wired into Cowork: Linear, Slack, calendar, Gmail. You create one from the pinned section of the sidebar; it opens a conversation that walks you through the setup, and the result lands as a pinned artifact that shows when it last updated. Reloading it refetches everything.

Building one takes about a minute. My first was a morning Slack digest, which used to require a Scheduled Task.

Two honest caveats from actually running it: the digest does not work super well yet, and the auto-update cadence needs to get more frequent to be really useful. I expect both to improve; this shipped yesterday as of the recording.

Live Artifacts vs Scheduled Tasks: which one?

I still prefer Scheduled Tasks, and the reason is what each one lets you do next. A Scheduled Task opens a new, focused conversation. I can read the digest, then ask follow-up questions, then act on what it found, all in the same thread. A Live Artifact is something I look at with no way to act on it from there.

So the split I would draw: if you maintain several dashboards by hand and mostly need to glance at state, Live Artifacts are worth exploring now. If the readout is the start of work rather than the end of it, use a Scheduled Task instead.

Where this is heading

The direction matters more than the dashboard. If Claude renders the view of your project state, then tools like Linear drift toward being data stores: information lives there, the reading happens in Claude, and you open the specialized tool only when you need to act. Maybe that is where this goes; we will see. For now it is a one-minute build that removed one recurring task from my morning.
